The controversial productivity parameter…

For years, we have spoke about cutting speed as the parameter to gain productivity. How many times have we not seen an ad touting “increase the speed by 20%”. And yes, we are all guilty of it. Let’s take a look at cutting data parameters as they relate to impact on tool life. Starting with depth of cut (Ap). As long as we stay within the operating parameters for a give insert geometry, the change in depth of cut has little impact on tool life.
