Since the automotive industry is a big market for the cutting tool industry, the competition in the market is tense. The ongoing downsizing trend in the automotive industry which began several years ago and requires high fuel efficiency and good environmental effects has made weight reduction of cars a top priority in the industry. Recent realization about the limit and utility of existing weight reduction technologies has increased the attention to the weight reduction of materials. One of the main approaches by such demands is increasing the share of aluminum and magnesium and various composite materials to replace existing metal parts. Walker Die Casting, a global manufacturer of key parts for high speed driving transmission, has been producing quality aluminum die castings since 1958. The company located in Lewisburg, Tennessee has produced die castings used in various automotive parts, commercial vehicle parts and on-board motor parts for customers in the U.S. and internationally. Walker Die Casting was acquired by Allison Transmission in September, 2019. Allison Transmission is the world's largest manufacturer of fully automatic transmissions and has more than 1,400 authorized distributors and dealers across the globe.

An Interview with Mr. Dillon Thomason, Machining Engineer at Walker Die Casting

We have been using the HPC end-mills, carbide drills and PCD drills. Since the PCD tools for composite materials have improved the whole manufacturing process, we can keep the best productivity. High performance PCD tools in the automotive part production has dropped processing costs, improved processing conditions and tool life, and made more efficient processing possible. I believe that the performance ofthe mechanical machining process goes together with that of parts.

As the automotive industry requires more complicated technologies, we need solutions to realize more rapid and efficient machining. In this regard, YG-1 has spared no pains in providing support in all our efforts to respond to the ongoing downsizing and weight reduction trend in the automotive industry.
